My Favorites in 2024

December 31 2024

I used to post a year end list summarizing some of my various favorite media that I consumed across the year. Since I no longer actively use Twitter or other social media, I’ll start posting them here.

TV Shows
  1. Reservation Dogs
This is not a new show (it ran from 2021-2023), but I only just discovered the show this year. It was an extremely quick and delightful binge. It is simultaneously the funniest and most heart warming show I watched this year.
  2. Shogun
Classic epic storytelling, with amazing set and costume designa and compelling characters.
  3. Slow Horses
Also not a new show, but I binged all four seasons this year. Very reliable with a high floor and sometimes high ceiling.
  4. Drops of God
Fed my interest in wine. The acting and plot were not always perfect. But it was enjoyable and had great lush scenery.
  5. Beef
I discovered this show after everyone else I guess. Great acting and forward-driving plot line.
  6. X-Men '97
I fondly remember watching the animated X-Men in the nineties. This revival was every bit as worthy and was never dull.
  7. Delicious in Dungeon
A wonderfully quirkly animated show about adventurers working their way through a dungeon and eating the monsters along the way. As close to an RPG as possible, with major laughs and fun visuals.
Movies
  1. Inside Out 2
The sequel absolutely stands up to the original. My favorite movie of the year.
  2. Challengers
Unexpectedly watchable. The soundtrack was annoying at first, but really grew on me as the movie progressed. Josh O'Connor is an absolute star.
  3. Hit Man
Quirky and maybe a bit unserious. But enjoyable nevertheless.
  4. Dune: Part Two
Definitely very long, and I had to watch it over sessions at home. But the cinematography is awe inspiring and you can't go wrong with a classic like Dune.
Books
  1. Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
  2. Outlive by Peter Attia
  3. Judgement of Paris by George Taber
  4. The Sports Gene by David Epstein
  5. Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
